Our History

Autosupplies was founded as a supplier of paints and refinishing products in 1990 by David Clarke.

David soon realised that to serve the garages and paintshops of Chesterfield, he needed to expand his product offer into auto parts and acessories … it was a local service that national distributors couldn't fully satisfy. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Autosupplies Group story - since 1990

Since he founded the business David has developed it to be one of the biggest and best run independent players in the UK's auto aftermarket. The awards we have won over the years bear testimony to that claim. Autosupplies has a history of developing people see our Team Page and Careers Page for details. Finally we have a history of geographically expanding to serve the needs of a huge area, stretching from Barnsley in the North, through Rotherham to Chesterfield in the Midlands.

We're proud of our history and all the things that David and the team have achieved. Read below to find out more aboutour business milestones and what they mean for our customers and our teams.

With branches in Chesterfield, Barnsley & Rotherham, the Autosupplies Group now has everything you need for your cars and vans plus paint and refinishing. The specific requirements of local independent factors still drives our three businesses today, headed up by the second generation of the family under David.

2017 - Autosupplies expands

David took over Butlers Automotive in Barnsley in 2017 and then expanded further by purchasing Leisureways in Rotherham in 2019. The two new businesses are run by David's sons Ben and Tom, with the Autosupplies Group now serving most of the South Yorkshire area.

2014 - A business milestone

After 25 years in business, Autosupplies were now successfully servicing the independent motor trade across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

2003 - Autosupplies thrives

The company moved into their new home in Bolsover and quickly set about expanding the components portfolio, with David insisting on carrying only top-quality brands.

1999 - A new home

In 1999 David bought an acre of land on the edge of Bolsover with a view to creating a prupose-built home for Autosupplies.

1990 - David founds the business

After a rapid progression through the ranks of other businesses, David Clarke started Autosupplies as a supplier to the refinishing and paintwork industry in 1990. He was 25 years old. His enterprising spirit meant that David quickly recognised the customer desire for general parts and expanded his offering.
